Corn starch, corn flour or maize starch or maize is the starch derived from the corn (maize) grain or wheat. The starch is obtained from the endosperm of the kernel. Corn starch is a popular food ingredient used in thickening sauces or soups, and is used in making corn syrup and other sugars.

1. Purifying: Clean up the impurities in the corn grain, usually by screening, wind selection, the proportion of sorting and so on. Purified corn is sent to steeping section.

2. Steeping: Corn grain is hard with embryo, which need to be soaked so that it can be crashed easier. It is to make corn become soft in steeping tank with steeping principle, where acid is heated and remains 50°C. Dipped corn is pumped to crashing stage, sending to wet corn storage after dewatering.

3. Corn Coarse Crushing: Mainly to break soaked corn into more than 10 small pieces, so that it’s easier to separate the embryo.

4. Germ Separation: Crashed corn is pumped into the first germ cyclone and screen, and then goes to the second mill for further crush. Germ goes to the second germ cyclone then back to previous tank.

5. Milling: In order to extract the starch, corn pieces must be ground to separate fiber and bran.

6. Starch Sieving: After grinding, the corn paste can be got. Then we can separate starch from coarse residue.

Main Equipment: Hexagonal Sieve, Flat Sieve, or Centrifugal Sieve

7. Protein separation and starch washing: Starch milk goes to primary separator for gluten separation. Cleaned starch goes to 12 stages cyclones for final washing to remove the tiny foreign items.

8. Drying: Fine starch milk is dewatered by peeler centrifuge, the starch is sent to air flow dryer for making dry starch product in which moisture should be less than 12%.
