What is PRP?
PRP: Platelet Rich Plasma
Blood contains plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. Platelets are small discoid cells with a life span of about 7-10 days. Inside platelets contain granules which contain clotting and growth factors. During the healing process, the platelets are activated and aggregate together. They then release the granules which contain growth factors which stimulate the inflammatory cascade and healing process (2).
Blood typically contains 6% platelets whereas PRP has a significantly increased supra-physiological platelet concentration. Although this level can vary depending on the method of extraction and equipment, studies have shown that clinical benefit can be obtained if the PRP used has an increased platelet concentration of 4x greater than normal blood
How to injection prp
1. Removal of blood
a. Open the outer sterile packaging, then carefully open the inner blister packaging
b. Connect a container with a butterfly needle. Puncture the vein with the butterfly needle. After 1--2ml of blood has fowed into the plastic tube, secure a small DT10 tube to the container so that it is filled with 8ml of whole blood by the vacuum.
c. Swivel the small tube approximately 6 times carefully prior to centrifuge.
d. Dispose of the used butterfly needle according to instruction.
2. Centrifugation
a. Fill a counterweight tube with the corresponding quantity of water as a counterweight to the DT10 small tube. No counterweight is necessary where more than 1 small tube is used.
b. Position all tubes in the centrifuge so that they act as counterweights to each other.
